The monoracial world pt.2

Well more a part 1.5, mostly just a thought had about it. Particularly due to the impact of social groups and how they interact. For instance say generic Europeans, islanders and religious groups.

Europeans, as the first example, will breed with anybody. At least this is true in the context of this argument. This means that they'll intergrate faster within the community and be quicker to mutate into this general human race.

Islanders are much the same, kinda at least. Mostly I'm using them to refer to a general indigenous case. Yes they will bread outside of their own race but to a certain extent will try and stay introverted. Will still likely be assimilated by the growing Euro population though.

Finally we have our religious groups. I'm thinking along the lines of Muslims or Buddhists. These groups tend to stay completely introverted for one reason or another (crackpot theory for another time). This means that while the Invaders are off breeding with the natives, they'll be off in their own little corner. Who knows though, thousand years that might all change.

This is a theory I've had for a while regarding evolution. Not the long term stuff though, just within a few thousand years perhaps. I had gotten to thinking about the various races within the human species and so i got to wondering what's gonna happen a long time from now, and i came up with two ideas.

1) The areas become settled so that the population of any given place becomes a new unique population.

2) Migration continues in such a way that humans merely become a single race.

Let's start with the first one shall we. Anthropology 101 pretty much comes off as humans started in Africa and migrated from there. And yes you've probably noticed that allot of us don't look African, this being due to mutations caused by our environment. I believe the Europeans became white to get better use of the sun there.

Thing is though that other migrants came in with a different set of genes and, i use the word broadly, contaminated the local gene pool. But now as the world has stabilized somewhat in terms of migrations that the local populations will settle down again. And so ten thousand years from now the local populations might revert back. Again the population of Europe might become entirely white again.

This of course assumes little movement among the population, which somehow seems unlikely. The other option then is perhaps humans simply become the one race. I know how much we all love our biodiversity but when you think about it we keep breeding with each other something has to give. I know how the future in movies all looks like a lovely little mix of races but would that really happen? I mean if we keep moving and exchanging genes then after enough time natural selection will just choose the best ones. This of course leading to all humans having the certain genes that work best across earth. And since we've done well to eliminate our environment and it's effect on us it does seem likely.

On a social note however i don't think the ENTIRE human race will be like that. We all know how much people like to be with their "own kind". There will, for a long time at least, be these circles of people that refuse to breed with anyone less than "pure". But let's face it, who is pure? I mean maybe in the colour of our skin but anyone that was in the colonies has a mix of Irish, English, Scottish.... There is no purity, get over it.

Back to (1) and (2) though, it does seem feasible that the two will combine in some sense. Populations will differ slightly based on location but for a whole we'll be a people shares little resemblance to what we are now. Was actually being told that red heads are dying out because it was little outliers in nature but since it's now so much grander there's no need for the gene. Then again i do suppose there's only one way to know for sure. See you in the future.

Friends are something I've been thinking about allot lately. Notably best friends and what it means to be one. Okay so this post could quite easily turn into a little emo rant about "i have no friends nobody loves me" but I'm a lil too passive for that.

What is a best friend anyway. A best friend I'd reckon is someone who'll always be there for you. Somebody that's never much more than a text away. Wouldn't think a friend is someone you have to spend 24/7 with, just someone whose company you'd always enjoy. Much like anything though it's always so hard to find, and even harder to hold on to. Once a boy back in the day who i just sort of clicked with you know, was truly great. We did much as we could together and was so sad the day he left.

I think the short of it really is a best friend is somebody who you love and loves you back. I mean that in a platonic sense of course. This isn't the love like for your mum or your partner but a different sort. This post is about to get really tacky but i do honestly believe it. Your friends are the people you surround yourself with, the people you talk to or see from time to time, but your best friend is that one that stands out.

I mean to say that one person without whom your life just wouldn't feel right without. And yes I've had a few people like this though i mostly left them in Wellington. Is one girl up here though that I've always thought my best friend, but now am starting to doubt it.

It's good to have someone round whose always been there, but is that fact alone enough? Yes there was a time when they were a big a part of my life as anybody ever has been, but it's almost as if that's dissipated. We've grown up i guess, both gotten ourselves busy in our own lives without much time for one another.

Perhaps it is time to make some new friends though, as the present ones seem so far away. To those people who i know are truly my best mates, I love you guys. And to those of you who just think you are well..

Would that i could.

Summer's gone away

So this is awkward...

What can i say folks, summer was chaotic as ever so any free time i did have usually resulted in sleep. I suppose most bloggers by now would be loading up this post with photos from vacation and recanting every last detail of their break. Me, not so much, I'm more for the forward motion.

Before we get started i probably should give you the highlight reel of the last few months. I finished my degree at Vic which is now in a pile somewhere to be framed, has a seal on it and everything. I'm currently doing my BSc at University of Auckland with a major in mathematics. Oh and if you didn't figure it out, I've moved to Auckland, was about a month ago. Also means I am single and plan to stay as that for a while. Aside from that there was nothing big going on, just usual summer stuff.

Quick shout to my aunty Sophie Keefe who died 3 weeks ago at 94. Odds are there will be another post purely about that though.

All things aside though my workload this year is a fair bit more than last year so that'll keep me occupied. Thankfully it's a lil more structured, as opposed to summer i mean, so regular blogging should resume quickly :)

Mostly this post is designed to show I'm still alive so don't worry too much about content, mostly it's cause I'm between lectures. Which come to think of it i need to get to. Hope i wasn't missed too much.

Fail Blogging

Yeah you know, sorry. Thing is that back during the year past i had some semblance of a routine so i would post blogs a bit more habitually. This being summer now and I haven't had a solid routine in over a month things have kinda gone down hill. Factor in that blogger hates me and you get a long time without posts.

Should probably get back to business as usual though. Got plenty of random shit and tons a stuff to review. But this being the personal blog, let's get personal.

Yes folks it is indeed summer, though you wouldn't know it looking out the window. Things have been pretty hectic, problem is finding a job to fund the hecticness. Not that there aren't jobs available it's just the whole notion of me leaving in a month doesn't sit well with employers. I do have some work though, I'm currently doing gardening for my parents so they can rent out the house here. What's slightly unnerving is I'm quite enjoying it.

That said the last month has actually been pretty slow, not that I'm complaining. I'm not really much for the big wild parties or anything like that. I do see people on occasion (will be doing a santa run next week) but really I've just been relaxing at home, reading a bit, listening to some music and stuff. Which to be entirely honest is how i like my time spent.

Undoubtedly I'm soon to be dragged along to the beach. This must all sound so foreign to all you lot in the northern. We have summer break and Christmas break all rolled into one, and i love it!

So anyway that's pretty much the just of what's been happening. Oh and btw i know a few people have been ignoring me and i know they read this blog, rightly i don't mind if you don't wanna talk to me, but could i at least have a reason?

Alright well even though nobody said anything I've decided to split up content. I've been on a bit of a clean buzz lately so maybe this will help organise things. So this here blog will stick to actual posts about well, me (feel free to unsubscribe now). Well me and any of the others who get their a into g and post something. As I'm writing this the other two blogs are currently derelict but will be doing introductory posts soon.

Offered Without Comment: This will be where i put all the random stuff i come across on. Mostly the internets stuff and other such randomness but also any stray science links or religious oddities that cross my mind. You can probably guess from the name that i wont be doing much actual writing for it, but hey it works. Feel free to submit!

Right i said i would write about music so here we go, first off hip-hop

Mos def ladies and gentleman. Probably one of the greatest of all time. Cause you see before all the "pop a cap in that ho bitches ass" stuff came around, there was something resembling music in the world of rap. This is actually the stuff i really like about rap stuff, just keeping it really simple, words and beat ya know.

Now to the pop section

Within three listens I had the lyrics memorised, if that ain't pop music i don't know what is. Plus i would like to say that if i could perform with the CBS orchestra damned if i wouldn't. Apparently the album as a whole isn't too good, but as i heard someone put it "preparing for the best greatest hits album ever".

More pop music now with Flight of the Concords and their new album I Told You I Was Freaky. No video to go along with this but i highly recommend getting it. Most of the tracks come the second season of their tv show so if you youtube them you can probably find what they sound like. But all the tracks have been remastered for the album and it includes a few extras. Go buy it!!

You heard it right boys and girls, I'm FREE!!! Subtle no?
But indeed it's all over, lectures are long since finished, and exams are gone baby gone. Now i got the whole summer to cruise. Though it's still spring at the moment isn't it? Oh well anyway. Grr really must work on this whole working situation. And this hair situation come to think of it, it's getting annoying always falling into my eyes.

So what's to talk about tonight? Well everyone is probably familiar with the future situation by now. Still looking for people, seriously, anyone? Technically though i have passed my diploma i have yet to graduate lol, i kinda forgot to. So yeah same old same old there.

Might be able to talk about religion? You know i think I'm through with the dumb christian bashing. Other than the fish in the barrel thing it's just getting kinda old. Oh and I am staying well away from the word "atheist" from now on. There is way too many stigmas there. Oh but i would like to point out two blogs, one is "cuddly atheism" written by a girl named kate, some marvelous ideas about it, see here. On the other side of the fence but thinking much alike is the "naked pastor" written by David. Good to see people making sense, plus certain things about Christianity i quite agree with.

What else is there to rant about? Music!! Actually I might start doing regular music posts, so look for the next post.

There has to be something else to rant about at this late hour. I must make a vlog some stage, though how long have i been saying that now. There are pretty things i have currently. Mother got me a book of James Jean prints so I'm super ecstatic. Dug out my old Maurice Sendak books and are loving them, you know the guy who did where the wild things are? I am quite excited to see that.

Maybe i should split this blog what do you think? Aw hell you guys never leave comments. Then again there's only like 2 of you. But was thinking maybe one for personal stuff and one for just dumping all the random shit i find. Plus would one of my contributors PLEASE post something, that's why you guys are here. Oh well next post then.

Well in case you couldn't tell i am indeed back after my little hiatus. The last post was about 20 days ago so i suppose i have some catching up do to. I would also like to apologise to my reader who may have very well missed me, however unlikely that is. Bare in mind though this will encompass several rants.

First off, the school rant:
What a shitload of work that was. Basically spent a week doing oral presentations for my grades. This is a couple weeks back now.
Monday was a welcoming speech to the staff of the Māori Faculty at Vic, not only the native speakers but the māori teachers as well, not to mention the pro vice chancellor who thought i was second year and still said i did good so heck yeah.
Tuesday our groups did our presentations for the books we wrote. Yes ladies and gentlemen i have been published, and cause of my last name it means i am first on the list. Come to think of it that means that it would be referenced as me et al, sweet
The production for a third class had it's dress rehearsal on Wednesday and then the performance on Thursday. Oh the chaos that was, but hey it was a really good time. You know I'm really gonna miss people when i leave.
Now all i have to worry about is exams...aue

Social rant:
Po whakangahau, basically the māori students association throwing us all a big end of tri party, and it was sweet. Fluro themed as well lol. That said i didn't do any drinking there, all that was done at SKR. Though i probably drank way too much i managed to keep my legs on me, plus was good to chill with people.
The actual party was good as well, lots of lights and sounds. Problem was at one point it got a bit much for me so i went outside. Then the bouncers wouldn't let me back in so we had the bright idea to hop the fence...not so bright. So after that most people were leaving anyway so went down to K bar, pretty good night i reckon.

Summer rant:
More an update than i rant i guess. And even then all i have to update is that there is nothing to update. Get the feeling i will be staying here over the summer though, get a job or something, then cruise out with my parents at the tail end. For all those wondering there's nothing wrong with Wellington i suppose, just i prefer to be up in Auckland, time for a change. Plus there's the whole nobody to really hang with in this city but I'm in no mood for depressive stuff ^^

I guess that's everything then, I'll post a few more links and things before i go.

Flat mate wanted

No joke actually, am looking for people. But first here's a basic rundown of the current situation.

Still residing in wellington with the last week of lectures this week and then a couple exams. Plus way too much work going (will explain at weeks end). But once all is said and done i am moving to Auckland. Simply though there are two variants of this situation.

First is what was the original plan and stick it out here over the summer, get a temp job or some such. Then after that was gonna go up to Auckland with my parents at around the start of February. Nothing wrong with this option but frankly i think i would rather have option two.

Option two is i find a flat in Auckland, move up there right after exams and start on a longer term job. While this is preferable at this point there are two main issues in this plan. First is obviously money, which is always an issue. Not as big a one in this situation though. The main issue is the change in what i would be looking for. You see with option 1 i would be checking for people looking for flatmates. Option 2 on the other hand i would be looking for people to go flatting with. Already talked to one person who said sure IF they stay in Auckland, and that's a pretty big if atm. Might try calling up some others as well.

Anyone has any ideas or heck, is willing to go in with me then i would be glad to hear it.

Went to one on Thursday.

For those who don't know a tangi is a Māori funeral. Well in that is a gathering for a person who has passed. Some key differences though is that it's typically a celebration of a life well lived, and of those weird things you used to get up to. Also where allot of business gets done, because everyone comes down. Not just friends family of the person either, everyone within about 2 degrees of separation.

The reason i was down there is our language class went to support one of our mates named Ngapipi, it being his mum that passed. Much love to him and his family. It's a basic trait around here, you go to support your mates when they need you.

I do like tangi and such though, as much as one can. No I'm not some weird one who gets out a kick out of death it's more the way people act. It's much the same deal as why i hate weddings (the actual event) is cause it all just seems so fake, i think i mentioned that a couple posts back. It's like everyone there puts on a happy face and goes along with it. Funerals though are the exact antithesis of a wedding, cause all the guises drop. What people really think comes out.

One of my old teachers once said to me "Don't you dear cry if you get hit, but you can ball your eyes out if someone dies". Admittedly It's a very masculine way of thinking, but it makes sense i guess. I mean when i was at my Koro's funeral it was odd seeing everyone acting so differently. Remember seeing this one guy who looked like a total commando. You know all big and butch, the "man's man" type. But just seeing him there, crying his eyes out, one of the few things that restores my faith in humanity. Think my father put it nicely when he said "All around it's just kids being brave".

Okay so maybe "like" wasn't the right word, but i think you figured out what i mean. On the other hand though funerals always do something to me. Back when Auntie V died i don't think i had even heard of her before that. But when we were up there, by the third day i was balling my eyes out. And that doesn't even account for the ones involving closer people. But i mean even for this one it's like, it's just thrown me into a funk. Today for instance i could barely get out of bed, i missed all my appointments.

It's not a conscious thing though, something in the back of my mind makes me go all wobbly around dead people. I guess it's just human nature really, nothing more i can really do. Anyway i apologize to anyone who I've acted weird to lately, I'll try perk up.

Chocolate and dizziness

Was feeling like was gonna pass out, but now had squiggles so I'm feeling better, though my spelling is still shit. I would do some update in my life but frankly shit all has happened. No seriously nothing. So instead I'm going to rank about sugar. And no i don't mean some political thing about the price of sugar being so high due to the crops being used to make bio fuel. I mean...

This is not a shill people, i just really enjoy them. Like seriously only thing i might choose over Tim Tams, but that's debatable. I'm not sure how to describe them to our foriegn readers except that they're goddam awesome. It's like a biscuit with this hokey pokey stuff on top, and then hokey pokey pieces in that, covered in chocolate *drool*. They also come in a candy flavour but i don't like them so much.

Of course today they only add to the way too much sugar I've had today. I spent a fair portion of my afternoon at wendys (super sundays not burgers). The one here is basically staffed by small girls in hot pink, i love it. No no I'm not perving, in fact i went to highscool with most of them, and then the others know me by proxy. Very cool bunch, though the boss does stand out cause he looks about the combined weight of the entire staff.

So all this sugar made me and Michelle go a bit loopy (we were hanging out, nothing unusual). She's like really light so i picked her up and started dancing. Eventually i started spinning around and making her really dizzy. She looked completely stoned after though, stumbling round and being stupid. We did all sorts of weird spins and stuff just to kill our energy, and the people at wendys applauded us cause it was a slow day and we were the entertainment. Eventually i picked her up on my shoulders and we got free ice cream.

I get so much free stuff from there. Back when it used to be operated by stoners i got a drink from there and they were like "did you pay for that?". I said no and he told me i coulda gotten away with not paying. Then he walked away. No wonder they don't work there any more. We also had a domino's operated by stoners. Once made what was dubbed the "mans pizza". It was basically just full to the brim with meat and cheese. Took a couple blasts from the oven to cook it.

Anyway i need to go run around to kill this energy.

You know how i ever so love statistics, well here's some new ones for ya.

Me being very much on the theory of evolution i do kinda wonder about creationism. Then again Mark Twain once said "Faith is believing what you know ain't so". But ever wonder what correlation there is to other factors? Someone gave a somewhat oversimplified version saying only 39% of people believe in it. And if we follow logical progression then it would be said that 61% don't. Kinda not the case, as allot of people either don't know or don't care. Read the report here

He was born in Rotorua 18 August 1935, he was a great entertainer and a wonderful man. He died 24 September 2009 in his home in Rotorua, suffering a severe heart attack. Words can't truly describe what you meant to this nation but i will say one thing. Chur bro, chur.

Daylight save me

Okay so my blogroll is reading like a ghost town at the moment. Seriously where has everyone gone? Well either way I'm too tired to care. You know how i said i would be tired after this weekend? I somewhat underestimated it.

Friday: Woke up rather unnaturally early and didn't get much done until practice. Then at 5 i had to hike it up to Karori for the stay over and man did we go all out. Singing, acting, dancing, marching.... This all went on till about midnight, then in true māori style we stayed up till 3am gossiping and playing cards.

Saturday: Was pretty much the same really, had several full run throughs of the production which in itself took a few hours. Don't forget waking up at 6am to cook breakfast. We were responsible for all meals, cooking, cleaning and the like. Nothing really new happened except we were going full on till about 9. Then making my way home didn't get in till late, and after getting ready for bed crashed around midnight.

Sunday: I was okay with waking up at 8, except thanks to daylight savings time was actually waking up at seven, which I'm not so cool with. Then had to get my shit together for a trip up to an eco-farm. We got to break sticks and everything, dear lord was dull. Had a hard enough time calling foul when they started talking astrology.

Then of course i had to work my way home, unpack my stuff, pack the next bunch of stuff and make my way over to my Michelle's for the ball. Roxanne and her date (Alistair) were there as well, and a couple others, was all pretty cool. Around half 7 we headed to the ball.

Dear lord though that's three hours I'll never get back. Actually we spent the first two hours waiting for food cause it was a buffet but we were at table 31, so not exactly the popular crowd. Though at the very beginning of when the buffet opened up they said a prayer...and i quickly exited. Can pretty much be summed up as a wedding reception actually, and i despise weddings but that's a different rant. Plus this is a girls school so you get your usual "OMG i love your dress" *turn around* "OMG did you see that THING she was wearing". Like no shit that really happened.

After that there was a slight intermission when they gave out awards, as well as the usual best dressed and belle of the ball awards (all won by the popular lot) there were awards for biggest blonde (dumbest), "pimpcess" (sluttiest), least outspoken (bitchiest) and the sunset tan award (most superficial).

Monday: Start with the after party which went into all hours. Then mishing it back to Michelle's place for the night (party was a bust btw). What we didn't know is she had to be at the airport by 11 so we all had to wake up early to get kicked out. So i lugged all my stuff out but didn't have time to go home so dropped off the rented suit and carried other crap up to uni. Annoyingly though nobody showed up to the meeting which was a major pain. Have i mentioned that its been pouring down with rain all day and I've been walking everywhere. Then finally decided to go home and well, after a shower to warm up, here i am ready to pass out.

A brief message before we begin: Regularly scheduled randomness is suspended until such a time as i can be bothered

So believe it or not the title today actually holds some relevance to the topic at hand. Though it may not be suitable for a work environment i don't plan on getting graphic. But I've just been wondering of late if society has gotten expectations down so low that the mediocre has become standard.

This whole thing came about from a conversation i was having with a male friend of mine. We were discussing sexuality and he took great pride in the fact that he "could last 10 minutes in bed". This struck me as being quite odd, i mean he was probably just being a moron but the statistical side of me decided to look into it a bit.

After dodging allot of porn came across some sex jokes. Most of which came with the punchline about the guy "must have a 6 inch cock". Then finding some data on this (and some metric conversions) six inches turns out to be pretty much the average. So i wonder if there's something I'm missing here.

You could always look at media, which gets the blame for everything. You will always see people talking about "how small he was" or "how quick he was" and it leads people to believe that less is more than it actually is. My friend pointed out a study to me that talked about earlier men didn't have issues like erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation, so maybe it's evolutionary.

In fact i have always believed that humans have evolved beyond evolution. Terms like "natural selection" and "survival of the fittest" no longer apply to us. Because with 6 billion people on this earth you no longer have to compete for a mate, there will be someone out there will to at least settle for you. And with things like natal care our infants are living, not to say that this is a bad thing but it is among things that never used to happen. One of the key factors in limiting population growth was lack of medicine.

That i believe is why people had so many children is because most wouldn't actually survive. But with modern medicine things have let people survive. That explains why men would have to be more effective, because if you didn't then your line would die out. Darwin would roll over in his grave.

Right so i just wrote a rather long post for a friend of mine over at uhm.... Prettyghostchild i think. Its a blogspot at least, I'm sure you can find it on google. I just googled this actually, i wonder how it generates which entry to display. That said i am currently very bored so this may well be a long post. And if you really are that desperate for more me then check out the other post. No i wont link cause I'm too lazy.

So lets talk facts shall me. In American English the word "route" is pronounced rhyming with "about", if you follow? Well for our Canadian readers it wont make sense but your close enough to know how they say route. Thing is though in the Queens English (I say that because English English sounds stupid) it's said like one might say "root". The reason i bring this up is because I'm very immature. You see there's these things called routers, which the English would say as "rooters". But in this country the word "root" has a colloquial meaning of well...sex. So i "rooter" would there be someone who has sex.

On an alternate linguistic note i was reading some good Dan Brown bashing today and they made the point that "The Da Vinci Code" is a redundant title. It is of course meant to be named after Leonardo da Vinci, thing is though that da Vinci actually wasn't what they think. Okay give me more shit about colloquialisms but I'm talking in a literal sense. You see Vinci is actually a place in Tuscany where Leonardo was in fact born. The word "da" then is to take on the meaning "of". So in English it would be Leonardo of Vinci. Same as i might be Tk of Pahauwera. Back to the point though the title would therefore be "The of Vinci Code" which doesn't make any sense. "The Da Vinci Code is like saying Mr Of Arabia or asking What Would Of Nazareth Do?" (1)

From letters to numbers lets talk about some fun stats shall we? Mostly American statistics though. For example only 39% percent of Americans believe in the theory of evolution. Most though are undecided so have to cut them some secular slack, but America does happen to be one of the more religious nations, one of the crazier too. All the shit they give about the middle east all one can really say is about the pot and the kettle.

Two similar notes then, the first being on the topic of religion. I can't recall the exact numbers but i believe it was that 1/12 of people in New Jersey believe Obama is the Anti-Christ. 1/3 conservatives believe this fact, and 2/3 Mccain supporters. I think the English did well to kick those "Puritans" off the island.

Similar note two is a report from the Colbert Report talking about children's text books. Notably someone calling them out as saying that they "do not clearly identify terrorists as Muslims". Have a mentioned Americans scare me. Them and toy babies but that's another issue. People flew a few planes into buildings in the states. The IRA has something like 50 years paramilitary action going on.

Thursday - Big presentation about my iwi due for my language class...aue

Friday/Saturday - Whats called a noho marae which is like a class stayover or whatever you might call it. Again for the performing arts stuff. We happen to have the production coming up actually.

Sunday (1) - Field trip to some eco farm or something to learn about working with nature. Sounds like some weird hippy shit. Maybe they'll have weed.

Sunday (2) - Going to the ball with Michelle, which is not only dancing but there's this whole formal dinner thing as well. Plus we ALL get breathalyzed at the door. Trust East to take the fun out of it. After party maybe though (oh yeah underage parties, so fun)

Whakapapa Pt.2

Well as it happens my research project for uni has me digging through genealogy books. This means two main things, 1 is i have to deal with my family and 2 is finding out where the heck I'm actually from.

Mean obviously there's the Māori stuff which can be found on in early posts, but then there's your basic kiwi heritage. To be clear though i have two Māori components; there's my dad's father, who i really don't know that much about myself, and there's my mum's dad's mother who is from Wairoa which is where i claim myself from. Just call me TK Keefe.

Cram is my birth name though for all who care to know, the name itself actually hails fairly recently from a place called Alloway in Scotland. It's apparently in the south-west of it but i wouldn't know so much. Who knows i think a kilt is a bit less revealing than a piupiu actually.

My mum's mum side I'm not too sure of the details, though i'm not sure on many things. Don't worry i will update when appropriate. Anyway my nans family name is Shuker, her dad was English which isn't exactly special. On the other hand though her mum is Danish which is one of the stranger things. Have to admit though i know very little about Danish culture, anyone that can help me out?

As i said before i know little on my dad's father, my grandma though i do have a bit of information on. Father gives the name Bestic(k), the k having being removed due to scribing error. This is actually one of the earlier settlers, this line coming here from Dublin in Ireland some eight generations back. We also had land once, on Queen St even, but traded it for whisky. Also had a flodded gold mine.

Last but not least there's Perrot from my grandmas mum. Not much to be said on this point except that they complete the United kingdom. That's right folks it's a Welsh name. I'm gonna try find out some more specific info for these places which shouldn't be too hard. But as i said i have to deal with family, mum's isn't so bad but dad's could be...troublesome. Be cool to find like the crests and that aye though?

Things cost money, i hate it. I also hate that the nice things cost more money. Thankfully I'm set for clothes for a while, but there's more i want. Notice that i want them doesn't mean I'm going to get them, I'm far from rich you know, oh but how gifts would be lovely.

Third, Art: More from the world of comics, kinda. Award winner James Jean has a few things around, and i want one in particular. This however is more around the $400 mark, so even less likley.

Fourth, Hair: I know i know, vain much, but still Amy is good. This oddly enough is top priority for things to save for. Mostly because i will miss her dearly when i leave. But still will try come down see her. Saving for a big thing at end of year, so $200?

Yeah yeah gimme a break lol, too much shit in too little time
But oddly enough a decent chunk of it is personal so i don't think it will be posted. Now now settle down I'm not talking personal like "I'm dating a whiny asshole", this is actually proper stuff. But now I'll have people whining cause i wont tell them and am being a tease....get over it.

On the other hand i can tell you i was hit by a car last week. Though since this is the first time all week I've been down to earth enough to keep my story straight, here's the official version: Walking along and a car drove up the curve (i blank). From all accounts it's obvious the car hit me, i bounced off the bonnet and through the windshield (wanna know how much damage that did, try breaking a windshield). This is about where i come to. Next up is the hospital for the official damage report.

Well after several hours of the doctors pulling glass out of my flesh and stitching me back up again (i lost count how many, doctors personal record though) the give me the first bit of good news, the only internal damage is concussion and some internal bruising, no bleeding so no need to op. Of course next comes the bad news, which is due to the nature of my medication I can't be prescribed pain meds, the did give me some happy pills though.

So now I'm in a searing amount of pain but soon be to happy to care, can't exactly move much because besides the bruising they have me looking like a mummy.

Few more things then, i sent a gift up to my little sister for birthday, as late as ever. I hope she likes it, and knowing her she'll take photos so I will be sure to upload.

Oh things a getting finalized for the move up. I have an interview for a tv show part, a standing job offer with a mate, and got my enrollments all sent away. Thankfully as well my parents are letting me use their new place up there as a halfway house. Meaning i don't have to worry so much about finding a place.

Other than that only one thing is new i suppose, and it's about a girl who i know reads this blog. In fact I'm somewhat relying on it. Now before mags goes gets their panties in a twist it's nothing to do with them. Tis about a girl i had a thing for, and well she liked me too. A couple posts back i talked about going to see Coraline and taking a girl with me. This got her in an absolute huff, then something strange happens. Couple nights back she goes out and gets pissed, and is quite open to me with the fact that she hooked up with a couple of guys. Her excuse is that it didn't count cause she was trashed. Either way that's put an end to that. But I'm sure someone would like to comment. All i have to say though.

So here's our scenario. There's this girl who i consider my little sister. Another good friend of mine recounts some less than admirable actions by her former boyfriend. It was organised for the two girls to talk about what had been going on. Now this girl is being yelled at by the former boyfriend, and a a third friend of mine is agreeing with his actions, stating that it was not her place to tell, and that the boyfriend claims he would have confessed at some point. I on the other hand am more for sharing information, if someone knew something about the person i liked then i would wish to be informed before decided if i should go out with them. In fact i was always brought up thinking you have the right to all information beforehand.

All this is not for nothing, i wish to ask any readers: If you knew something, would you tell the person yourself, or wait (possibly in vain) for that two people to discuss it themselves?

Went to go see it today, fact is i only just got back. Btw i know my writing style is bullocks at the best of times, but less you plan to be constructive then stfu. Anyway back to the point.

On the whole it's not all that bad a movie. Yes yes we are all aware of the moral undertones of apartheid and all that, so i think i will leave that part where it lay.

Productions value was good though. It had actually sprung up from the old halo project. Which is why Peter Jackson had it is cause weta had all this leftover stuff. So it did look quite cool, all very real looking.

Decent plotline as well, if not a little cliche. Mean "guy gets splashed with alien juice and becomes one of them" isn't exactly original. But plenty of loud noises made up for that. Though my friend did comment on how dense the movie was, and she was expecting more explosions. Which is actually true especially in comparison to something like transformers it was a really dense movie.

One thing that did bug me though was the main character was kinda fickle. Not to give much away but within the space of 10 minutes he betrayed the alien for his own goals, then saved the alien to help it accomplish its own goals.

On the whole though i would say go see it, it may not win movie of the century but still an enjoyable watch which wont leave you with the feeling of "by god how long does this go for". But R16 is probably right, many moments in there which aren't for the squimish.

Verdict: Go see

Guess what, I'm actually gonna write something productive on here. Or at the very least something more than the daily rant. So today kiddies we're gonna review Neil Gaimans "Coraline" and the movie based on the book.

First off i would voice that I'm pretty biased towards Gaiman, i love reading his work, mean sandman was brilliant, and good omens was what got me back into reading. And this isn't the first book of his that has been adapted either, anyone remember stardust? Plus it is that the director on the film did nightmare before christmas, so this whole thing has a level of expectation. Plus it's in 3-D!!!!!!

Well lets start with the book then shall we. It's a little thing, some 200 pages of large print and pictures. Okay it should be made clear this is a kids book. A kids book too scary for a child mind you. But that's one of the things that made it so good, is it's a book that anyone of any age could pick up. Mean heck this is my dads copy. Apparently Gaiman writes book he would have liked to read at the target age...which is saying something.

All and all though i found the book to be wonderfully fascinating, as is with his writing style i find myself sucked into the story, suddenly looking up at the clock to find it's 2am. That said my dreams that night were a little off putting so maybe read in broad daylight in a crowded area.

Of course with some great books (and allot that are far from it, I'm looking at you Meyer) it has been made into a movie. Not just any movie mind you, a 3D movie. To get this bit out of the way the 3D is actually a nice touch. Mean i grew up with the IMAX stuff so used to 3D being jumping out at you, but this is actually a nice touch, just adding that little bit of depth. Though the glasses were really sore over my own.

The movie itself was actually quite good, surprising considering what hollywood usually turns out. I took a date and she was tensed onto my arm the entire time. Proving you don't need blood and gore to be scary. It made quite a nice transition all things considered, and easily watchable without any knowledge of the book. As i said before, kids film you wouldn't take your kids to.

I would go into production values but there is really no point. It was a well made movie plain and simple, and though I'm pretty sure its closed in the states i highly recommend it, and the book as well.

Verdict: Go read/see

Ever get that feeling like you could drop off the face of the earth and nobody would notice? Yeah me too, and it just so happens that from time to time i do drop off the face of the earth. It's actually a rather neat little talent. Though you think i might have learned by now that really, nobody gives a toss. I'm not asking for a search party or anything, hell I'm not asking people to care even, but it would be nice to come back after a fortnight and actually have something waiting for me.

Guess what, i ended up back in hospital, figures aye. So in that regard not much else has happened. Well other than my mate giving me this wonderful quote:

Anyway.....

It's the first of the month which means my grant came through. I CAN EAT AGAIN!!!! Haha yeah I'm just a lil excited about that fact. Three cheers for being Māori lol. But right now i wouldn't be all that surprised if someone like Emma decided to go on at me about assimilation or some bs. All due respect to her she's one of my best mates, but some of the shirt she says is something else (Here). Oh well so it goes, least now i can pick up some cheap ass phone, I'll get my number transfered though so don't have to worry about that.

Odd that i talk about money and Emma in the same paragraph, cause she still has another 35 bucks remaining :P At least i think its 35, seeing as i lent her the money in the summer wasnt expecting to have to keep track of micro payments this long.

You know i think i'll try keep these posts short. Mean wont be micro (like my new favourite word) posting or anything, this will not be twitter. But really i can't much stand it when people have these long droning posts about nothing. Which come to think of it is what i'm doing now. I think I'll write a review of something today, Suggestions?
